Work with us!

We’re hiring!

Southerly Flower Farm is hiring for the 2022 season!

Part-time, seasonal Flower Field Crew position available.

Please note before applying!

  • The team at Southerly Flower Farm values diversity and inclusion in our work environment and does not discriminate against any couple we might design for based on race, sexual identity/orientation, gender, age, or differing abilities.

  • We are in support of racial and social justice at Southerly and as such, we are an LGBTQIA+ affirming company and we also believe Black lives matter.

  • We take pride in designing for all celebrations of love and creating a wedding experience our couples will cherish and be comfortable with. Please take this into consideration when applying.

About Us:

We grow cut flowers for local markets and florists and provide for our wedding floral design. We are entering our eighth season as a flower farm and are committed to sustainable and low-till growing practices. The farm is located about 45-50 minutes from downtown Chattanooga atop the Cumberland Plateau.

Our Mission:

Driven by our love of the land, we want to provide unique, quality flowers that have been cultivated and grown sustainably and inspire local, seasonal choices.

Our Workplace Culture and Values:

We believe in creating an environment that balances fast paced, efficient work with community and openness. This work can at times be intense, usually jumping right to it in the mornings. Sometimes we are working independently in the field, allowing opportunities for team members to take initiative. But we also find time to work and laugh together, have fun and sweat collectively!

We believe in continual growth and constant improvement (there is always room for it!) and learning from each other. Our mornings start with a quick team meeting at 8:30am to get us on the same page and also hear about any ideas or questions others might have. We know from experience that being in the work itself is where many of the best ideas come up and we are always open to discuss ways we can make systems more efficient. Communication and feedback are key to our farm’s growth.

Flower Field Crew Position

Overview:

Looking for a positive, energetic and hard working flower farm crew member to assist mainly with our farm production and day-to-day tasks of field work. The farm crew member is a part time position and seasonal. Our season begins in April and ends in November.

Schedule will be Tuesday through Friday, 8 hour days. Some Saturdays or Sundays required, although rotated amongst crew members. This would include set up and breakdown of weddings and/or bouquet and bunching on Saturdays or assisting at the farmer’s markets on Sundays (which will be communicated weeks in advance).

Job Description:

Crew member works with Sarah and team to assist in any farm related tasks. This includes, but is not limited to, early morning harvesting, weeding, watering, washing buckets, following proper hydration instructions, transplanting, propagating and planting annual crops, record keeping, processing cut flowers and bouquet building for market sales and shop sales.

Potential to assist our design team with event prep and day-of help, which is a high-paced role and would include washing buckets, loading/unloading at farm and venues, post event clean up, and sometimes assisting with design.

This may also include floral deliveries driving our van to and from Chattanooga, which is also rotated amongst team members.

  • Ability to work full days (8 hrs) of physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions (rain, high humidity, intense heat/sun exposure). These may be repetitive and strenuous, with occasional heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs) and bending, kneeling, squatting, standing, etc.

  • Ability to work quickly and to jump in or improvise when needed

  • The ability to work as part of a team and independently

  • A willingness to take initiative, to learn, and to ask questions

  • Keep diligent records within our workflow requirements for harvesting, seeding, planting and other field tasks.

Additional information:

This will be on farm work that will ensure you could come in contact with many types of bugs, plants such as poison ivy, and things that can trigger allergies. It is recommended (although not required) that you wear protective clothing such as full pants, and sometimes long sleeves, proper shoes and gloves which we can provide.

The Southerly team loves to have fun with each other, but the ability to stay focused on the farm tasks is a priority, as we all need to be able to work efficiently to keep up with the time-sensitive goals and requirements of the job. An ability to keep pace while working together is very important to the success of the farm.

You will be required to bring your own lunch and water bottle.

Depending on availability, team members are able to take flowers and veggies home.

Please note that because this position is part time and seasonal, we ask that our team take off no more than 1 week of vacation during the season.
